Freedom House

The Freedom House is a sober living facility for men in recovery who wish to continue working on their program after rehab. Located in peaceful Effingham, New Hampshire, it can accommodate up to 17 residents. Choosing a facility like Freedom House is a great way to transition back to your life after being in an intensive rehab program.

What is Sober Living?

A sober living home acts as an intermediary step between residential and partial hospitalization and in lieu of going right back to your old life. Compared to the length of your use and your life, rehab was pretty short. Learning new habits and learning to use the tools that you gathered from rehab can take time and practice, and a sober living home offers people a place where they can gain some amount of responsibility, accountability, and freedom while learning to stay sober over the long run.

It’s important to note that the path to recovery is not always easy. You should not expect to have an easy time making the transition. Making use of the resources available to you like sober living homes and other types of support will help you along the way while helping to ensure that you can remain sober and live the life that you have been dreaming of.

At Freedom House, you are usually expected to work, go to school, or volunteer. Otherwise, you need to engage in activities outside of your substance abuse program. This will help to give you a sense of independence, freedom, and responsibility that you do not get in rehab.

In sober living, you will:

Sober living facilities require you to be sober, which means that they will not condone using. If caught using, there will likely be disciplinary action, and in some cases you may be asked to leave. If this should happen, you can elect to re-enter a detox program as well as a residential or outpatient program, and then apply for sober living once you are ready.

What to Expect at the Freedom House

The Freedom House is a beautiful log cabin in the woods of New Hampshire. Here you will find everything that you need to get prepared for the longer sober journey. There is plenty of private space as well as common areas where meetings will take place; there is a television room, kitchen, and dining area. At the Freedom House, you will work on rebuilding your life in an independent setting.

Also, three staff members spend time at the home, facilitating group meetings and making sure that everything is peaceful and residents are happy. The Freedom House will give you the time that you need to fully process and work out how you are going to use the new information and tools that you gained from your experience at rehab.

For example, at the Freedom House, you will be exposed to:

Additionally, our programs are an extension of what you had experienced in the main rehab program. We see spiritual development, meditationyoga, and exercise all as vital parts of learning to live a sober life.
